I. Title (4/20/2013)
So
far, we are planning to stay with the title of 4/20/2013 for our project. We
believe this title is straight to the point and very effective for our project.
This is our working title for now and we may come up with a different one as we
work on the project, however this is likely to remain the title.

· Rebecca decided to leave the journalism program at CU
to pursue other career opportunities so she will not be participating in the
project
III. Statement of purpose
We are interested in taking a look at how 4/20 has
changed over the past few years. We are looking to see how the school views the
event and how the school feels the event reflects on the image of the
school.
Our group is interesting in looking at what measures the
school is taking these year to prevent the 4/20 celebration from taking place.
We are curious to see how these security measures differ from the ones taken
last year on campus. It would be interesting to see what motivated the school
to make changes to the event so suddenly as well as what school officials
learned from previous years dealing with the event.
We are also interested to see what plans CU has for the
future of 4/20. It would also be interesting to see if the school includes
statistics such as the project cost of preventing the event moving forward.
IV. Scope and Scale
The scale could be focused on the amount of resources
used to prevent 4/20 from taking place on campus. We also want to look at how the amount of
resources used by CU has changed over the years during the event. It would also be interesting to find out how
much different security costs for the event were when it was allowed versus the
security cost of banning the event.
The scope of the project will be to focus on just the
CU-Boulder campus, and in particular the Norlin quadrangle. We would be looking at how security if
focused on Norlin, but also how security focuses on other parts of campus where
non-students are attempting to enter.

VI. Preliminary story topics/media needs
Story topics
· What the school learns from 4/20 each year
· How security measures change each year and the cost
that goes with that
· How the event reflects CU’s reputation
· Main concerns for the event this year
· Future plans for 4/20
Media considerations
· Less focus on video, more focus on blogging on
effective web design
· Coming up with a list of potential people to interview
such as administrators and security personnel
· How school officials would want the school to be
represented and how they would want journalism students at CU to portray the
event
VII. Anticipated Barriers/Obstacles
· Finding people that would be willing to interview on
the subject could be a challenge
· How people would be willing to interview and what type
of interview they would do
· May be a challenge to obtain statistical information
on the event, especially from previous years
· Effectively getting information across to the view
with our use of media
· How to get an audience interested in the information
with using video
